WebP, AVIF, JPEG and PNG. WebP is the safest all-round choice today; AVIF goes smaller still but takes longer to encode.
Does converting to JPG remove transparency?
It has to — JPEG has no alpha channel. Transparent areas are flattened onto a white background. Use PNG or WebP if you need to keep transparency.
